Efficient small-lot production – effective set-up concepts for a production rich of alternatives
For persons responsible for production, production engineers, segment leaders, masters and Continuous Improvement Process-experts
The reduction and prevention of set-up times is a permanent and important topic on the way to an efficient production, the so-called "flowing” production. In manufacturing companies which only produce according to market requirements, lot sizing and the optimisation of order succession mostly belong to the past. It dpends on the market what to produce when and how.
The problem, however, lies in the fact that just at a time when production is customer-oriented, the lot size decreases and the efficiency of the production is questioned. Therefore, it is essential to pave the way towards lot size “1” for production. Optimised material flow, the principle of one-piece flow, pull production (Kanban), prevention of idle periods and above all the reduction of set-up times are important approaches. They help you increase your flexibility, needed to produce exactly what the customer wants to have at a certain delivery date. We want to present organisational and cost-effective technical measures and generate ideas which help to successfully take the way towards "flowing production”.
